Classic Car Show, NASREC, 7 July 2013

The Classic Car Show came and went ……..

With my younger sister being a Ford Cortina and my means of transport via a-frame and a member of the Ford Cortina Club of South Africa, I was fortunate to pose on the corner to the club’s site.

Of course I attracted attention, after all I am a Legend Racing Car! More pictures of this event can be found on Facebook. Remember I am also on Facebook, just look for Fossa Ford Anglia!

On the way home my a-frame bent and had to be temporary rectified. It has however now been upgraded by reinforcing. Until I have my trailer I will only accompany my sister to the race tracks and selected shows. I caused quite a scare when I attempted to overtake my sister!

My immediate program includes Super Trax Day at Zwartkops Raceway, the 21st of July, Historic Racing on theĀ  27th of July at Zwartkops Raceway and the 4th of August for Cars in the Park again at Zwartkops Raceway! Hectic!

See you there!

2 x 1 Year Anniversaries

Our first anniversaries, yes, plural is around the corner.

1. Our very first race track drive took place on the 15th of July 2012, during a Super Trax Day at the Zwartkops Raceway,

2. and our very first nerve wrecking race a week later on the 21st of July 2012.

Our first time on track landed us with an estimated 1:47.?? – 1:48.?? and our current best time as per Race Chrono a cool 1:28.20!

A year of challenges, successes, luck and failures.

Challenges: On many fronts, personal, financial and technical. Getting Fossa ready for the next event, pushing mind and body, with limited resources in the forms of time and money, yet achieving our targets.

Successes: The feeling of arrival trackside and on completion of a race with a pretty old motor car fitted with relatively few modern improvements.

Luck: Well lets face it, our trophies have been gained mostly due to luck. We had to however first finish, and that we did!

Failures: After starting with good reliability, we have a had a few, fuel delivery, engine failures …… Part of the sport!

In this year we have shared the track with many enthusiastic good drivers and some legends, including Sarel Van Der Merwe driving a Chevelle on Kyalami. And the there were the famous, Gugu Zulu, Clive Rice, Sasha Martenigo …… They all started ahead of us and some passed us. We are still chasing the initial target of starting a race and not have any of the other “Little Giants” catch up and pass …… pretty soon, I trust. The question remains, how far do we need to push the 1600 Kent and retain some reliability?

At almost every event and Super Trax Day, we have shown improvement in time and / or gained skill in setup, driving and experienced a refreshment course in Fossa’s engine. A lot of work equals at lot of FUN!

Enter the next year. Every now and then something happens in life that gives new “boost” like an energy drink at the right time. Our last stint at Trax Day was such a boost after changing the main jets in Fossa. Whether that will continue and if Fossa will be reliable remains to be seen. We are riding into our next year with such a boost and a lot of anticipation!

Our thanks to our supporters, event organisers, photographers, RacePics and the interest shown by Bolt Stop!
